This embossing technique can look back on a tradition that goes back thousands of years. Blind embossing is considered the oldest form of surface decoration. The Nag Hammadi Codex II, a collection found in Egypt in 1945, is one of the earliest known examples of blind embossing.

Create visually and haptically memorable gloss effects

Embossing something literally illustrates the process of conveying a memorable impression. And that’s exactly what happens – technically speaking – with an embossing stamp that is applied with pressure to a specific carrier material. Even though we have long since arrived in the digital age – printed matter that is visually appealing and can be experienced haptically still sparks pure enthusiasm.

Conjure up a touch of luxury

Hot foil stamping impresses at the point of sale with its luxurious appearance, underlines the value of the product and sustainably cultivates the brand image.
Gold or silver tones are predominantly embossed to achieve metallic effects – be it for lettering, logos or graphic elements. But foils in a wide variety of colour shades also leave plenty of room for design options. Hot foil stamping is also smudge-proof, durable and impresses with its excellent opacity and luminosity. The foil layers are only a few 1/1000 mm thick and are applied using brass embossing tools as flat embossing or relief by means of heat and embossing force. This process is carried out between 90 and 130°C. There are almost no limits to the variety of colours and effects with light reflections. Today, hot foil stamping is mostly used in the field of particularly noble wine labels, greeting cards and finally also for high-quality packaging – be it in the cosmetics, confectionery or consumer goods sector.

Traditional embossing art at the most modern level

The steadily growing demand for packaging with hot foil stamping in recent years prompted colordruck Baiersbronn to install the Brausse Signa 1080 hot foil stamping machine in December 2018. Since then, we have been providing packaging with exceptionally brilliant effects that you can not only marvel at, but also feel.
