At a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly important and the desire for environmentally friendly products is growing, a unique project has been created that combines art, fashion and environmental protection. Imagine you are looking for a pair of shoes that are not only stylish and innovative, but also fulfil your ecological requirements. This is exactly where our story begins. As a packaging service provider, we were faced with the exciting challenge of developing packaging for the “Tim Bengel x Sioux SuperKrautOne sneaker” – a shoe that blurs the boundaries between art and sustainability. Our task? To create packaging that is not only environmentally friendly, but also emphasises the natural beauty and uniqueness of the shoe. Welcome to a world where art meets the environment and the packaging itself becomes an ambassador for a sustainable vision.

The SuperkrautOne sneaker

Sustainable, stylish, limited: The Tim Bengel x Sioux SuperKrautOne sneaker is 100 per cent vegan and limited to 999 pairs. The collaboration between Walheim-based shoe specialist Sioux and artist Tim Bengel has thus entered its second round after the successful first vegan sneaker ‘StepOne’ in 2020.

The 31-year-old Esslingen-based artist Tim Bengel, who is behind this special collaboration with the Swabian shoe brand, is considered one of the best-known artists of his generation with a media reach of well over 500 million people and hundreds of thousands of social media followers. He is known for his unique gold and sand artworks. The depiction of architectural and floral motifs made of black and white sand in combination with gold leaf is unmistakable.

Lewin Berner, Sioux CEO, is delighted about the continuation of the cooperation: “At Sioux, we have always been one step ahead when it comes to sustainability, it is anchored in our corporate DNA. By working with Tim Bengel, we are opening this up to a younger generation with a cool street style look. This is a matter close to my heart.”

The “Tim Bengel x Sioux SuperKrautOne sneaker” is not just a shoe, it’s a statement. This sneaker embodies the perfect symbiosis of creative genius and environmental protection. The “SuperKraut” in the name of the shoe is a tribute to the most important vegetable plant in the Stuttgart region and an expression of Tim Bengel’s commitment to sustainability. The shoe itself is made from 100% vegan materials. The upper material is made from grape residues, vegetable oils and natural fibres from agriculture. But the

“I want to make my art accessible to as wide an audience as possible in a contemporary and sustainable way. We have rethought rubber soles and catapulted this vegan natural material into the modern world. That’s why I’m very happy about the second vegan sneaker that I’ve created together with Sioux.”

This shoe is not just a fashion accessory, but a commitment to art, sustainability and innovation. Our story is about how our packaging perfectly complements this unique piece of art and emphasises the message of Tim Bengel and Sioux in a sustainable and aesthetic way.

As a packaging service provider, we seized the unique opportunity to be part of this fascinating project. Our task was to develop packaging that not only conveys the message of the “Tim Bengel x Sioux SuperKrautOne sneaker”, but also perfectly complements it. Our inspiration was the same as that of Tim Bengel and Sioux: sustainability and style should not be mutually exclusive. That’s why, in a joint development with the customer, we opted for grass cardboard – the most sustainable option, which is not only environmentally friendly but also offers an equally natural feel. The use of colours and varnishes was deliberately avoided to ensure that the packaging is in line with the environmentally friendly message of the shoe.

Instead of printing, we have worked with outstanding embossing. The lettering emphasises the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into both Tim Bengel’s art and Sioux shoes.

This extraordinary customer story shows how sustainable packaging can not only be protection, but also art. An inspiring vision that proves that innovation and creativity can go hand in hand in the world of fashion, packaging and environmental protection.
