We all can’t deny it anymore, the topic of sustainability is more present than ever. Consumers are paying more attention to plastic-free packaging at points of sale and are increasingly making their purchases dependent on it. In order to be able to continue to prove and assert themselves in competition, this requires a rethink on the part of many companies.

The advantages of blister packaging

In the consumer goods sector, blister packs are the most common plastic packaging. The reasons why the transparent packaging variants are still frequently used today are obvious:

  • Protection against theft
  • Protection of the product
  • Visibility of the product
  • Sales presentation in the hanger

The product is packaged without having to hide it. Many companies often use these points as an argument to justify why they have not yet switched to a sustainable alternative. At first glance, this is understandable, because it plays a decisive role especially if a manufacturer wants to present his product in a particularly customer-oriented way in the trade. The opinion is often expressed that no other sustainable construction can offer these assurances.

The sustainable construction

Our customer UHU did not want to leave this issue untried and therefore took it upon itself to replace the blister packaging with plastic bonnet by a sustainable design for its adhesive roll. The prerequisite here, however, was to be able to retain all the points listed above without restrictions and thus not to have to accept any disadvantages.

We took on this task and did our utmost to meet the customer’s requirements during the development phase of the packaging. A recyclable FSC-certified cardboard was used. By means of a clever construction, we were able to take up the adhesive roll, lock it in place and thus finally develop and produce all functions of the plastic bonnet without any plastic at all.

Through precisely fitting customisation, we succeeded in securing a firm hold for the product in its packaging. The product is almost completely wrapped in its new packaging and is still visually visible to the customer by means of product printing, punching and open sides. With the help of additional tuck-in flaps, the anti-theft protection has been further strengthened. The sales presentation in the trailer is still given with this solution.

Win-Win

No plastic is a solution after all. There are ways and means to ensure the advantages of blister packaging in an environmentally conscious style. In doing so, we achieve a win-win situation. The companies can contribute to environmental protection and the wishes or requirements of the consumers are taken up and implemented. With trust in the right partner and with the appropriate know-how, these challenges can also be mastered. Let’s grow together in the face of challenges, do good for the environment and thus contribute to relieving it.
