Our climate targets have been validated: colordruck Baiersbronn has successfully completed the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation process, joining more than 7,300 companies worldwide pursuing science-based climate targets (as of March 2025).
The Science Based Targets initiative: Scientific criteria for climate targets
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) develops standards and methods that enable companies to align their climate targets with scientific findings. These are based on the emission reductions needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
During the validation process, SBTi Services assesses the targets submitted by companies against defined criteria. These include the level of ambition, the timeframe and the emissions covered. For near-term reduction targets for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, the criteria require alignment with the 1.5°C goal.
Successful validation confirms the scientific basis of our targets. For us, it recognises the work that has gone into developing our climate targets and motivates us to put them into practice.
Our commitment: Specific climate targets for 2032 and 2029
colordruck Baiersbronn commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2032 compared with the 2022 base year. In addition, 90% of our suppliers, measured by their share of emissions, will set science-based climate targets by 2029.
These targets cover not only direct emissions from our operations, but also indirect emissions from purchased goods and services, as well as transportation and distribution processes. We also account for land-related emissions and carbon removals associated with bio-based energy sources.
We therefore focus on two areas: emissions from our own operations and the development of science-based climate targets within our supply chain.
Why this validation is important
Our validated targets give our climate action a clear direction. The defined target values and timeframes provide a framework against which we can measure our progress.
We are delighted to have reached this milestone and successfully completed validation. We will build on this achievement with clear targets for our operations and by engaging our suppliers. For us, the confirmation of our targets also means a commitment to keep moving their implementation forward.
