Nearly 60 guests, seven speakers and two key topics: Our customer event in Baiersbronn on 24 and 25 September explored the possibilities of digital printing and the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Expert insights and conversations shaped both days.

Following our digital printing events under the banner “einDRUCKsvoller Schwarzwald” in previous years, we expanded the format this time. Under the motto “PPWR x Digital Printing – Two Days. Two Perspectives. One Future.”, each day focused on a different topic.

Digital Printing in Practice

On Thursday afternoon, we opened our doors for the first day and welcomed our guests with sparkling wine and appetisers from a local farm shop. Some had travelled a long way and could take a moment to settle in. Just as the programme was due to begin, a power outage affected the town. The electricity was out for around an hour and a half, so we had to rearrange the programme at short notice.

Once power was restored, the presentations began a little later than planned. HP Deutschland and our customers Mahlwerk Porzellan, epda and La Conditoria shared insights into digital printing, their work with us and packaging projects we had developed together. We moved the planned tour of our production facilities to the following day.

In the evening, a shuttle took the guests to the Glasmännlehütte on the Stöckerkopf. Over antipasti, a barbecue buffet and dessert, there was plenty of time to continue conversations and make new connections in the heart of the Black Forest.

PPWR: Requirements and Possible Approaches

On Friday, attention turned to the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, or PPWR. Christian Schiffers from the FFI industry association provided an overview of the regulation. Philippe Blank from the cyclos-HTP Institute discussed how recyclability is assessed, while Eric Geringer from Bleher Folientechnik spoke about plastic films and their alternatives.

We were also able to make up for the production tour cancelled the previous day, giving our guests an opportunity to see our production facilities and processes first-hand.

Before leaving, participants received a packed lunch for their journey home, which for some was a long one. This brought two days of expert insights, practical perspectives and many conversations to a close. We thank all our guests and everyone involved for their contributions, their openness and their flexibility when the event got off to an unexpected start.

The photo gallery and our short recap video offer more impressions from both days.
